Pinellas man arrested for reportedly beating up elderly mother, now charged with murder

UPDATE: Daniel Richards has now been charged with murder after his mother died on August 31 as a result of her injuries from the brutal beating.

An autopsy was performed which revealed her cause of death as complication of blunt force trauma and her manner of death as homicide. 

ORIGINAL STORY: A Pinellas County man is behind bars at Pinellas County Jail after he reportedly beat up his elderly mother on Monday. 

Daniel Edward Richards, 60, of Clearwater, was arrested by Clearwater Police Department on Tuesday after officers say he threw his 83-year-old mother on the ground and proceeded to kick and stomp on her.

Richards gave detectives multiple accounts of how the injuries were sustained, but detectives were able to disprove these reports. 

According to police, the two got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Richards attacked her.
 
The elderly woman was transported to Bayfront Medican Center and is currently in critical condition with multiple broken bones and internal injuries.. 

Richards has been charged with attempted murder.
