UPDATE — Tavirus Walter, 21, was arrested on July 26. He faces a third-degree murder charge.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in St. Petersburg early Monday morning.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. on MLK St. S at 34th Ave. S.
Police say the driver of a stolen white Infiniti sedan struck a female pedestrian. Police say the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Investigators say that same vehicle continued to MKL St. at 37th Ave., just three blocks away and ditched the vehicle.
Martin Luther King St. South was closed in the area during the investigation, but has since reopened.
The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash. She was identified as Phelexis Jakara Robinson, 26. Police say her car broke down on MLK St. and she was in the roadway nearby when the Infiniti hit her.
