Officer-involved shooting in Tarpon Springs leaves Palm Harbor man dead

Shots fired at a car show in Tarpon Springs kills one person.

Per a release from the Tarpon Spring Police department, at about 1:30 p.m. an off-duty patrol officer was working at car show when he was advised of a suspicious person on a bike.

The officer made contact with the person and was provided a fake name. After the person pulled a knife on the officer he fired at the person.

The name of the person that was shot has been identified at 25-year-old Nicholas A. Provenza of Palm Harbor.

The name of the officer has not been released.

The Florida department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
