Man sought after punching St. Pete bus driver

Posted
St. Pete police are searching for a man who punched a PSTA bus driver in the eye after refusing to pay his fare.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. June 17 after the driver picked up the suspect at Central Avenue and 49th Street, according to St. Petersburg Police Department.

The suspect showed the driver a student ID, which would have made him eligible for discounted fare.

The driver noticed the ID was expired and told the suspect to pay full price. When the suspect refused, the driver pulled over and ordered him to get off.

The suspect punched the driver and ran away, police said.

The driver’s glasses were broken and he had to get stitches under his right eye.

The suspect is described as a man between 18 and 24 years old standing about 6-foot-1 and weighing 140 to 180 pounds. He may have been wearing a work uniform for a fast food restaurant.
