SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. — All these years we thought Whoville helped grow the Grinch's tiny heart, but turns out, it may be Bassano Cheesecake Cafe in Safety Harbor that’s making the difference.

“My heart’s grown quite a bit working here,” said the Safety Harbor Grinch, an employee at Bassano Cheesecake Cafe.

If the pandemic has done one good thing, it’s forced literally everyone to remember what’s really important.

Yeah, even the Grinch.

“I’m not gonna steal Christmas so much. I might borrow it a little,” said the Safety Harbor Grinch.

He’s the newest, and furriest employee at Bassano Cheesecake.

It’s not necessarily the job he was hoping for...

“I want to be an interpretive dancer," said the Safety Harbor Grinch.

And quite honestly, he’s not the employee they were looking for.

“He’s not the best worker behind the counter. I’ve had to kind of promote him to the greeter kind of, cause he tends to get a lot of hair in the food,” said Cindy Bassano, Owner of Bassano Cheesecake.

Bassano Cheesecake has been in operation for over a year, but they opened their storefront mid-pandemic.

“It’s had its challenges,” said Bassano.

But rather than wallowing in self-pity, they’re helping solve world… comfort food hunger.

“We ship all over the country, so that, people seem to still want dessert,” said Bassano.

And they're giving mostly everybody a good laugh.

When the Safety Harbor Grinch is not working inside Bassano Cheesecake, he takes strolls down Safety Harbor Main Street, gifting onions and radishes to visitors and posing for photos.

He'll be working lots this Christmas season, and if you stop by, you might be “lucky” enough to try one of his onion lattes.

The owner of Bassano Cheesecake says the Grinch typically works weekend evenings.
