PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Alan Landers love superheroes — the ones in comic books and the ones in the U.S. Military.

“They’re the real heroes of this country,” the 12-year-old in the Flash t-shirt said.

So when Alan was 6 years old he created a way to celebrate all of them.

Alan’s Superhero Fun Run is a fundraiser that helps Tamp Bay area veterans fly on the prestigious Honor Flight of West Central Florida, which sends our military superheroes to Washington, D.C. to pay their respects at the monuments.

“We’ve raised $60,000 to send 150 veterans on the Honor Flight,” said Alan, whose grandfather and stepmother are both veterans.

And he’s not done.

Alan will host the 7th Annual Superhero Fun Run on October 12 at Freedom Lake Park in Pinellas Park.

The public is invited to dress up as their favorite superheroes to help raise money to send more veterans on the Honor Flight.

“The joy I see on the veterans’ faces, that’s the best part about helping people,” Alan said.
