Boy, 16, charged with sexually battering girl at Lealman Innovation Academy

A judge ordered a behavioral evaluation and ordered that the 16-year-old be held in juvenile detention.

Original Story | Detectives have arrested and charged a 16-year-old St. Petersburg boy with sexual battery at a school.

Zarif Mingo, 16, is accused of sexually battering a 14-year-old girl at Lealman Innovation Academy located at 4900 28th Street North.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on December 7, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's office.

Detectives said Mingo asked the victim to go into an unoccupied classroom with him and she refused. 

Mingo used physical force to pull the victim into the empty classroom against her will, where he sexually battered her, according to detectives.

Mingo was interviewed on Monday and arrested without incident.

He is charged with one count of Sexual Battery and is being held at the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
