CLEARWATER, Fla. — Clearwater Beach residents and businesses who are likely to be forced to evacuate during a hurricane or tropical storm can now sign up for re-entry passes to be able to return home after the storm has passed.

The Barrier Island Re-entry Program allows all residents and business owners who own property on Clearwater Beach — including Sand Key and Island Estates — to receive an assigned Emergency Access permit.

The permit allows only those who own property to access the area after a major storm to prevent looting and burglary.

Those who need a permit can take their government-issued photo ID and proof of residency to the Clearwater Police Department at 645 Pierce St. between 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
