Are your kids safe walking to school or even getting off the bus near school? A Florida law firm dug through the FL Department of Motor Vehicle records to find out the number of crashes within 500 feet of schools— and it’s alarming!
The study found thousands of crashes are happening within 500 feet of schools and with more kids distracted by phones and blasting music in their headphones, crashes involving middle and higher schoolers are up. The pedestrian death rate for kids ages 12-19 has increased 13 perfect in the past 3 years.
The study looked at the most crash prone areas around schools and developed a tool parents can use to search for their child’s specific school to see how many crashes happened there in 2016.
