5-year-old suffers extensive burns from lighter, mother arrested for neglect: Report

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A mother in St. Petersburg is facing child neglect charges after her 5-year-old child suffered extensive burns from a lighter when left alone with other children, according to an arrest report.

Kashawna Bing, 29, is accused of leaving the 5-year-old alone with three other children all under the age of nine for an extended amount of time on Wednesday afternoon.

An arrest report says Bing left the children alone to go get snacks and cigarettes.

While the children were alone, the 5-year-old suffered "extensive" burns to the right side of her chest and her right arm, the report says.

The burns caused open wounds and blisters, according to the report.

Bing is being held on $10,000 bond.
