ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Nearly a month after beginning their shooting investigation, police have arrested a 20-year-old for the murder of a man found shot in an alleyway.
The St. Petersburg Police Department said Ajani Welch, 20, was arrested and charged with the first degree murder of Artez Davis, 23, on Nov. 6 in Hillsborough County.
Officers say Davis died at an area hospital after he was shot by Welch in an alleyway in the 4700 block of 18th Avenue South on Oct. 12.
Police were called to the shooting just after 12:30 p.m. Investigators released this picture and video of Welch as they investigated the shooting.
"A Crimestoppers tip led to the arrest in Hillsborough County last night, November 6," the St. Petersburg Police Department said in a release. "Paperwork is being completed to transfer him to Pinellas County."
