1 dead, another injured after double shooting in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St Petersburg police are investigating an overnight shooting that left one man dead and another man in critical condition.

Officials said there was a large gathering of about 50-100 people outside the Food Max Meat Market on 18th Avenue South around 1 a.m. when two men got into an argument and shots were fired.

An officer was nearby and arrived on the scene quickly.

The crowd dispersed and the officer found 38-year-old Bernard Nixon and another man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The two men were transported to Bayfront Hospital in St. Pete. Nixon died at the hospital.

The other man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is in critical condition.

Saturday morning, Darren Lamont Williams, 49, was arrested. He is facing the following charges: felon in possession of a firearm, attempted murder in the second-degree and murder in the second-degree.

Police said all charges are in connection with the shooting.
