CLEARWATER, Fla. — A deadly crash involving two motorcycles and another vehicle shut down lanes on the Courtney Campbell Causeway Sunday afternoon.
Clearwater Police said two people died in the crash, both were on the motorcycles involved.
According to Clearwater Police, both motorcycles were going east at a high rate of speed when one slammed into the rear of a Hyundai Sonata that was going eastbound in the median lane.
The impact from the first motorcycle pushed the Sonata into the curb lane where it hit the other motorcyclist.
One of the motorcyclists, a 51-year-old man from Tampa was pronounced dead at the scene. The other motorcyclist, a 26-year-old man from Valrico, was airlifted from the scene but died hours later at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
The crash shut down all eastbound lanes for several hours Sunday, but opened up after 7 p.m.
