WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — A driver in Pasco County says she saw someone throw a kitten out the window of their moving car Tuesday morning on State Road 54.

"I’m disgusted. I think the worst part is having my three-year-old child in the car with me,” said Heather Knox.

She was coming up to River Glen Boulevard just after 8 a.m. when she saw someone toss something black to the ground out of a window two cars in front of her.

"I thought what I saw was somebody throwing trash out the window,” she said.

But she noticed it was moving. She didn’t realize it was a kitten until it came out from underneath the back of the car in front of her. After she pulled over, she ran to see if the kitten was ok, but Knox says she thought it was too late because it was just lying there.

"Nobody wants to see anything like that happened to an innocent animal. I keep replaying it coming from out from underneath the car that was in front of me and seeing it in full panic mode was probably something that’s going to stick with me for a little bit,” she said.

Around the same time, another woman saw a little black kitten limping across SR-54, at the same intersection with what looked like a broken leg. She was able to scoop him up and take him to the vet. The kitten only suffered a minor fracture and is going to be OK. That woman is going to keep him and has already named him River.

She and Knox think its probably the same kitten. Knox is relieved the kitten ended up surviving.

Knox says she wasn't able to get a plate on the car he was tossed from, but says it was a newer model silver sedan. She's hoping someone else can point out who did it.

"They need to probably get some help because, I’m hoping they get help and that they say something,” she said.
