10 a.m. UPDATE | Eddy Quintana Perez, 69, of Cape Coral, has been identified as the driver of the tractor trailer involved in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 near State Road 52 Friday evening.
Perez suffered burns to more than 40% of his body, authorities said. He is being treated at Tampa General Hospital for his injuries.
7 a.m. UPDATE | Florida Highway Patrol says both northbound lanes on Interstate 75 near State Road 52 now are open following cleanup of a fiery tractor trailer crash.
The truck driver is being treated of his injuries at an area trauma center.
ORIGINAL STORY | Pasco County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a tractor-trailer fire on I-75 northbound that has caused traffic delays.
On Friday evening, a tractor-trailer struck a barrier, exploded and caught fire in the area of I-75 northbound and State Route 52, according to officials.
The driver of the truck was seriously injured. He received burns on over 40 percent of his body and was airlifted to a local trauma center.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol has closed the northbound lanes to traffic and have not yet released when they will be reopened.
