SPRING HILL, Fla. — A Pasco County sheriff's deputy directing traffic on State Road 52 was hit by a vehicle before daybreak Saturday, authorities said.
The deputy was assisting Pasco County Fire Rescue battling a nearby structure fire.
Firefighters arrived at about 5 a.m. Saturday to an abandoned, single-family home with flames showing in the 18000 block of S.R. 52 in Pasco County.
S.R. 52 was shut down in both directions between Land O' Lakes Boulevard and Kent Grove Drive due to the structure fire when the traffic incident occurred.
The deputy was rushed to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point for treatment, a Pasco County Fire Rescue Tweet stated.
The motorist involved remained on scene, Pasco County Fire Rescue spokesman Corey Dierdorff said.
S.R. 52 was shut down for several hours after the fire and traffic incident. The road was reopened to traffic before 9 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
