A Pasco County deputy and his K9 pursued and caught two stolen vehicle suspects Saturday, and the whole thing was caught on body cam video.

It happened on Feb. 24 as they were pursuing a stolen Ford Expedition. The vehicle crashed into a telephone pole on Denton Ave.

The driver ran and Deputy Nicholas Carmack sent his K9 Shep to chase him. Meanwhile, the passenger tried to run but was quickly detained by Carmack.

The deputy then made the passenger run with him to locate the K9 and the driver. While running, they saw the driver dragging Shep further onto the property, continuing to try to escape.

“Had it been a deputy who was in uniform or a K9, they are part of the family. They are part of the team. And for them it’s even more special because that’s the handler with his dog. So I bet you Nick was extremely concerned," said Sheriff Chris Nocco.

When Deputy Carmack caught up, the driver gave up and was arrested without further incident.

Carmack was recently honored for his involvement in stopping a mentally ill man who shot and killed a family friend outside an elementary school.
