NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A New Port Richey man has been arrested after he punched another man in the face after the man accused him of littering at a New Port Richey convenience store.

At approximately 11:06 p.m. on Thursday night, Brian Haley, 23, got into an argument with Matthew Brenner at Snax & Beverage located at 4816 Grand Boulevard in New Port Richey over the victim believing that Haley was littering.

During the argument, Brenner got back into the rear passenger side of his vehicle which he drove up in and he shut the door. Haley walked over to the vehicle and opened the door without Brenner's permission. Brenner stepped out of the vehicle to defend himself and Haley punched him in the face and knocked him out. Brenner fell backwards, hitting his head on the ground, causing a slight concussion. Brenner also suffered a busted lip from the punch.

Two witnesses told deputies they saw the argument between the two men and saw Haley open the car door and confront Brenner.

Haley has been charged with felony battery with aggravated injuries and burglary conveyance, occupied.

According to the arrest affidavit, Haley is currently out on bond for two cases, facing charges of possession of alprazolam, carrying a concealed firearm, obstructing justice-tampering in noncriminal proceeding and battery-touch or strike.

The responding deputy wrote "I request high bond for the defendant," in the arrest documents.
