Deputies: Florida man strikes sister, her dog with shovel; dog suffers life-threatening injuries

SPRING HILL, Fla. -- A Spring Hill man was arrested after deputies say he struck his sister and her dog with a shovel.

Pasco County deputies responded to the home on Wednesday afternoon in reference to a domestic battery. 

The victim told deputies that her brother, 48-year-old Kenneth Adams, struck her in the head and back of the neck with a shovel. Deputies say that the victim was bleeding from a deep cut on the left side of her face. She also had a deep cut on her forehead and had was bleeding from injuries on her arms. The victim told deputies that her brother caused the injuries.

Deputies say that Adams used the same shovel to strike the victim's dog, causing life-threatening injuries to the animal. 

The deputy who responded to the scene saw the dog and said it appeared to have "multiple traumatic injuries," according to the arrest affidavit. 

The victim was transported to the hospital.

Adams was arrested and charged with Domestic Aggravated Battery and Felony Animal Cruelty.
