PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- Pasco County's education community is wrapping its arms around a grieving family.
The late Seven Springs Middle School teacher Renee Dermott's birthday would have been Wednesday. Dermott died of cardiac arrest over the weekend after she had tested positive for the coronavirus.
On Wednesday evening, friends, colleagues and former students drove by the longtime teacher's home to surprise her family.
Dermott's family remembers Renee as generous and dedicated.
"Mom was more than just a teacher that collected homework assignments and sent you home," said her daughter Nikki Dermott. "She was a teacher that genuinely cared and connected with the kids."
The family says they are planning to hold a public memorial for Renee on Saturday.
