Residents, dignitaries, and veterans gathered at Crest Lake Park in Clearwater on Sunday for the opening of the Veteran's Memorial Plaza. The project has been years in the making.

"This memorial will serve as a living tribute but also as a constant education for the generations that will come long past us. This is a great, remarkable day," U.S. Rep. David Jolly said.

The plaza honors those from all branches of the military. Families of veterans can buy a portion of a wall to have their loved one's name engraved in the wall.

"The very next thing I'm doing is putting a plaque on the wall for my son. It's a place I can come to everyday and just remember him," Kathi Finley said.

Finley's son, Jonathan Rossi, died in Iraq in 2007. She said he loved serving his country.

"He wanted to serve More than anything, he wanted to serve the country," Finley said.
