Car burglars strike large portion of Pinellas County

Posted

A pair of car burglars are suspected in a spree that spanned neighborhoods along a six-mile-stretch of East Lake Road in Pinellas County on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

"Some part of you feels a little violated." Jeff Bridges, whose car was burglarized, said.

Bridges' surveillance cameras on his home captured the entire crime.

In the video, you see a person pull on a car door handle across the street, but the car is locked. You then see the dome light of the car in his driveway turn on. Inside of the car, you can see what appears to be a man wearing a hat rifling through the center console. The person across the street then runs over and pulls on the handle of another car in his driveway. That car was locked, so the man runs down the street to the next home. It was 3:50am.

Bridges says he always locks his car, but remembers sitting on his key fob earlier in the day, causing his trunk to pop open.

"I never thought that it opened the other doors of the car as well." He said.

Bridges lives along Brayton Terrace South. One other car was broken into along that street.

About 2 miles north, thieves hit 3 cars along Savannah Oaks Circle.

A total of 16 cars were burglarized in neighborhoods along East Lake Road.

Across Pinellas County, there have been 87 reported car burglaries in the past week.
