2-year-old Palm Harbor boy drowns in neighbor's pool

Pinellas County detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating the drowning of a toddler at a Palm Harbor home.

Authorities say 2-year-old Robert Kibitlewski was with his grandmother Janice Kibitlewski at their at home, located at 3072 Sugar Bear Trail.

Janice lost sight of Robert when she went to gather her mail.

Deputies say Janice went inside the house and spoke with Robert's mother, Rachelle Kibitlewski, who confirmed the toddler never came inside.

Family members then began searching the neighborhood and notified the Sheriff's Office approximately 15 minutes later.

Just as deputies were arriving, Janice found Robert floating in a home pool at a house at 3075 Windridge Oaks Drive. Janice pulled Robert out of the pool and began CPR until first responders could take over.

Paramedics took Robert to Mease Countryside Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:57 p.m.

Detectives believe the drowning was an accident.
