LARGO, Fla. — Greek islands Restaurant in Largo is back open after a month of rebuilding.  The iconic Largo restaurant was forced to shut down after a distracted driver ran into the side of the restaurant in February.

Truck crashes into family-owned restaurant in Largo, forcing it to close

“A truck just came in right through our backyard, right into our stock room,” said owner Peter Poulakis.

Fortunately nobody was in the stockroom at the time of the crash, but the business lost thousands of dollars.

“He did not have insurance, welcome to Florida,” said Poulakis.

About a dozen employees were out of a job for about a month.  Teri Thompson has been with the restaurant for nearly 30 years.

“It was tough, we all took a loss,” said Thompson.

Poulakis said it was a tough month, but he’s just happy nobody was hurt.

"You just have to be very careful keep your eyes on the road and stay focused,” said Poulakis.
