A man is in custody at the Pinellas County Jail after he reportedly jumped into the water in Clearwater and attempted to hide in the channel.
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire and Rescue were called to the scene just after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning after a U.S. Customs agent saw Anthony Zeiger, 52, jump into the water and the agent said he appeared to be "intoxicated."
Officials say the channel he jumped into is known to have very strong and dangerous currents.
The fire department responded with their boat with Clearwater Police onboard and Zeiger was rescued.
Zeiger was charged with obstruction of justice and taken to the Pinellas County Jail where he later posted $150 bond and was released.
