2 Clearwater residents killed in crash, 10-year-old boy in critical condition

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — Two Clearwater residents were killed in a crash in Alachua County on Monday night, a 10-year-old boy was also critically injured.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Marisol Garcia, 39, of Clearwater, was driving a Chevrolet Prizm eastbound on County Road 1474 around 7 p.m. Two other Clearwater residents, Robin Rivera, 40, and Derek Garcia, 10, were also in the vehicle.

FHP says that as their vehicle was approaching County Road 219A, Marisol failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by another vehicle in the middle of the intersection. Marisol and Rivera were pronounced dead on scene, they were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Derek was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, Christopher Fagan, 36, of Belleview, received minor injuries.

Investigators are still working to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

No additional information has been released at this time.
