Helicopter collides with a small plane in Clearwater, 1 injured

One person was injured after a small plane and a helicopter collided in Clearwater.

Clearwater Fire Department was dispatched to Clearwater Air Park at 1000 N Hercules Avenue around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The helicopter was reportedly hovering at approximately 20 feet off the runway at Clewarwater Air Park when a white fixed-wing aircraft attempted to land and made contact with the hovering helicopter. The white aircraft crashed into the runway and tumbled approximately 500 feet coming to a rest upside down. 

The pilot of the plane was transported to Bayfront hospital with minor injuries. The pilot and passenger of the helicopter were not injured. The FAA and NTSB did not respond.
