Tampa police and Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the park around 2 p.m. on February 22. Officers said her body was discovered about a 1/4 mile into Picnic Island Park.

"They're asking anybody who may have information, either seen her prior to this or saw the incident, to call Crimestoppers," said Eddy Durkin, with the Tampa Police Department.

Detectives continue to follow leads and are asking for the community's assistance.

"We're trying to find some closure for the family. We're trying to bring this case to a conclusion and we're just hoping somebody out there has some information," said Durkin.

Anthony Mercurio said he heard about the death investigation last month. He usually comes to the park to catch a sunset.

"You wouldn't think twice that would happen out here considering the speed limit is so slow," he said.

"It's heartbreaking. I had family in town and I was telling them how it was such a nice neighborhood. My roommate told me about the situation," he added.

If anyone witnessed the incident or knows the whereabouts of Sharon in the hours leading to this incident, please contact Crimestoppers of Tampa Bay at 800-873-TIPS.
