HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Several drivers were ticketed Thursday morning for going the wrong way on I-75 in an attempt to avoid traffic due to a major crash.
Action Air One flew over the crash at the Alafia River as authorities shut down the southbound lanes of I-75 in Hillsborough County.
Our video shows several people driving the wrong direction, then cutting through a grassy median to avoid waiting in traffic.
We're told dozens of drivers were ticketed as a result of their actions.
"The actions of the motorists traveling in the wrong direction were wrong, dangerous and illegal," said Sgt. Steve Gaskins with the Florida Highway Patrol.
It's still unclear what caused the crash Thursday morning.
