TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department begins a three-month campaign on Tuesday to make three dangerous roads a whole lot safer.

Officers will be patrolling three roads where a large number of crashes occurred resulting in serious injuries or fatalities to pedestrians or bicyclists.

Those roads are:

  • Fowler Avenue; from Florida Avenue to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard
  • Busch Boulevard; from Armenia Avenue to Nebraska Avenue
  • W. Hillsborough Avenue; from Hoover Boulevard to Himes Avenue

Police will focus on drivers who are speeding and pedestrians who are not following traffic laws.

The campaign is being conducted in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, Tampa Police District 7, and the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR).

Data will be analyzed during the three-month program to determine if the enforcement efforts are having a positive impact.
