UPDATE | A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery of an 86-year-old female in Brandon. Marcus Wayne Hunt, 28, of Tampa, was charged with robbery and Felon in possession of a firearm. He was identified and arrested at approximately 12:05 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22.

ORIGINAL STORY | At least two suspects followed an 86-year-old woman home from the grocery store and robbed her at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

The woman bought groceries at the Walmart located at 11110 Causeway Blvd. in Brandon, then drove back home.

Deputies say at least two people driving in a 2014-2017 dark gray Toyota Corolla followed her home and parked in a nearby driveway.

Once she began unloading her groceries, detectives say a man exited the front passenger side of the car, pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at her and took her purse.

He got back in the car and left the scene.

The purse was later located in a trash can at the Git-N-Go at 7802 Rideout Rd. in Tampa.

ABC Action News spoke with people outside Walmart who said they were shocked about the crime.

“You always got to be aware of your surroundings --- always. But, for a woman to be that age, you know, she doesn’t expect that," Donald Kirby said.

Kirby said he and his family shop at the same Walmart.

"That’s all you can say...God bless them and God bless her. And if she’s okay, than God was with her...on her side, but God don’t like ugly neither," Kirby said.

Anyone with information on the suspects or their whereabouts is asked to call Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
