TAMPA — A developer wants to build an 11-story storage unit building within walking distance of Perry Harvey Senior Park, the bus transit center and Encore apartments in downtown Tampa.

The storage facility would be one of the first things you see when you hop off I-275 headed Downtown East.

Some neighbors say it doesn't belong here.

"So it's kind of a pretty big waste of space,” said Josh Frank, Urban Designer.

Some neighbors believe downtown needs more retail and restaurants, not "dead space" which would barely have anyone working there.

"I don't have anything that would go in the storage because I try to live within my means and not keep things around that I don't need. The idea of storage is a bit strange to me,” said Andrew Watson, who lives in a Downtown Tampa apartment.

City leaders must approve a special use permit for the project to happen.

If you want to voice your opinion, the issue comes before Tampa City Council Thursday evening at 6 PM.
