Ruskin man wanted for reportedly stabbing roommate to death

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Ruskin man who reportedly stabbed his roommate to death on Monday, October 23. 

At approximately 5:14 p.m., deputies received a 911 call in reference to a stabbing that had just occurred at 1107 Windton Oak Drive in Ruskin. The caller said he observed a man lying in a pool of blood in a driveway. When deputies arrived on scene, they found the victim suffering from stab wounds in the driveway of 1106 Windton Oak Drive and attempted medical aid. The victim, identified as Derick Avila, was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

Detectives learned that the suspect, Angel Calix, of Ruskin, got into an argument with the victim while inside their kitchen at 1107 Windton Oak Drive. The argument turned physical, according to detectives. Calix reportedly punched Avila once in the face with a closed fist. The victim responded by punching the suspect once in the face with a closed fist. Calix then grabbed three kitchen knives and attempted to stab Avila in the neck and chest area, according to the investigation. Calix dropped two of the knives and stabbed the victim in the chest with the remaining knife. Avila ran from the house to a neighbor's house and Calix ran from the scene. 

Detectives have issued a warrant for Angel Calix for manslaughter with a weapon.
