TAMPA, Fla. — Two people are dead and one is injured following a kidnapping that led to a standoff with police in Tampa Monday.
On Sunday, police say a female victim accepted a ride from a male acquaintance/suspect who then took her to a residence on the 1500 block of 28th Avenue without her permission.
They say at some point during the night hours, a man was called to the residence and an argument ensued. Police say the suspect then struck the man in the head with an object, killing him.
On Monday morning, the woman was able to request help from family members, via text, who then called the police.
A perimeter was established around the residence and police tried to make contact with the suspect. At that time, neighbors were evacuated and the woman was able to get out safely.
The suspect reportedly ran out the back of the residence and tried to hide under the house. A robot was deployed to view the crawl space under the residence before the suspect was approached and found him deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
One firearm was found in his possession at that time. The home was cleared for possible victims at which time police found the man who had been killed earlier.
The woman is recovering at the hospital from her injuries.
