TAMPA, Fla. — Metropolitan Ministries volunteers are busy setting up the organization's holiday tent just in time for Thanksgiving, but they're low on food donations.

Metropolitan started the holiday tent nearly 40 years ago — back then it was on their campus. The tent has grown to the size of a football field and is now in an open field on North Rome Ave.

"We are here to meet the need of our community, " said Vice President of Marketing Justine Burke.

The need has grown and Burke says they have to provide food for 37% more people than they did last year. That's more than 260,000 lbs of food.

"We barely had 100,000 pounds last week," said Burke.

Even though they get donations every day, Burke said they are not where they need to be.

"We are counting on the community to rally," Burke said. "We need people to go out and get our most needed items, which are Ham, Yams, and Cranberry sauce."

There are many different ways you can donate. You can go to the holiday tent at 2609 N. Rome Ave, send money through their website or go to one of their other locations. For more details, click here.
