LITHIA, Fla. -- A family in Lithia is seeking tips after they say a jogger was hit by a hit-and-run driver.
Jeremy Spurlin tells ABC Action News, he was on his way back home when what appeared to be a dark-colored sedan struck him along Dorman Road in the FishHawk Ranch neighborhood.
It happened after 6 a.m. on October 5 along Dorman Road and Osprey Glen Drive.
“Car hopped the curb behind me,” said Jeremy Spurlin. “Hit me from behind, I rolled back onto the hood, smacked me pretty good.”
Medics transported Spurlin to St. Joseph’s Hospital - South in Riverview.
“It was immediately after he left that I just started breaking down crying, it’s still kind of emotional,” said his wife, Katie Spurlin. “Honestly, it could have been so much worse. I could have lost my husband that day.”
Spurlin suffered a concussion and several deep cuts and scrapes.
“The concussion is by far the worst and most lasting part of the whole thing,” said Spurlin. “I have a constant headache for over a week now.”
Neighbors have reportedly submitted a surveillance video to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in hopes it holds some potential clues.
“I forgive them,” said Spurlin. “But I hope that they can develop the courage to do what’s right next time.”
