TAMPA, Fla. — Kim Kardashian, David Beckam and Paula Abdule are just some of the celebrities that have sat in Trendee King’s makeup chair.
“I moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 because I always wanted to do makeup,” said King. “All these TV shows I had watched myself, I was now working on, it was kind of surreal.”
From movies to commercials to fashion runways and award shows, King’s 20-year career in LA gave her the opportunity to flush out all sorts of memorable, iconic looks.
“I truly love doing makeup and I truly love making people feel good about themselves so I feel very blessed,” said King.
With her signature hats and a name like Trendee, she is well known in the industry.
“A lot of people think it’s a stage name or a made-up name but that’s the name that my mom and dad gave me,” said King.
However, she said the lifestyle isn’t always glitz and glamour.
“It’s very grueling and tiring, sometimes you’re working three months on a TV show, you are working 12 to 14 hour days, you are working with lots of different personalities,” said King.
So earlier this year, she packed up the lipstick, eyeliner and blush and moved to Tampa.
“I’m really focused on doing the everyday woman, weddings and special events that's what I truly enjoy doing,” said King.
She is also making house calls, providing lessons.
“I go to my client's homes, I go through their makeup, I tell them what to keep, what to get rid of, and then teach them how to use it,” said King.
Her biggest tip, less is more.
“Every woman over 30 I feel is wearing too much makeup and aging themselves,” said King.
She said the people of Tampa can look just as beautiful as those we see on stage or in the movies, and she can’t wait to provide that foundation.
“There’s so much product, there are so many tools, its overwhelming, so I want to take the guesswork out of it and help you see exactly what you should be doing,” said King.
