HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is looking to add a new surveillance camera system for the agency's Cessna 208B Caravan, amping up its ability to search.

Deputies are already using these thermal FLIR cameras to search and rescue in Tampa Bay. The cameras are especially helpful in nighttime searches.

The price tag is $161,715 for use by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office through the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), administered by the Tampa Police Department for the entire Tampa Bay Area.

This is federal money that helps the highest-threat risk areas across the country be prepared for potential terrorist threats.

City leaders are expected to vote to approve their portion of this on Thursday.
