LUTZ, Fla. — A Hillsborough County teacher was arrested on Thursday for sending inappropriate messages to a former student, deputies say.

On Wednesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office began an investigation after a parent discovered inappropriate text messages between Scott Robert Wilson, 36, and her 14-year-old child.

Detectives learned that between May to July of this year, Wilson engaged in a conversation with the teenage victim through Snapchat. HCSO says that the messages were sexually explicit in nature.

On Thursday, detectives interviewed Wilson. He admitted to having sexually explicit text conversations with the victim and to knowing the victim's age.

Wilson is a teacher at Learning Gate Community School in Lutz. The victim is Wilson's former student, however, she no longer attends the same school.

Wilson was arrested and charged with one count of distributing obscene material to a minor. He was booked into Orient Road Jail and is currently being held on a $2,000 bond.

Detectives do not believe there are other victims involved.

Anyone with additional information related to Wilson or this case is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
