A man who reportedly shot someone in Hillsborough County and then barricaded himself in a home with a woman and five children surrendered peacefully, the sheriff's office says.

It all started around 10:30 p.m. Monday when authorities received reports of a shooting. The victim was taken to a hospital but pronounced dead there.

Deputies connected the suspect in that shooting to Malcom Hill,31, in the Campus Court Mobile Home Park.

They say Hill shot the victim and went back into his home. A woman and five children were inside the home at the time.

HCSO's SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team worked to make contact with those inside the home early Tuesday morning, urging them to come out. Just before 2:30 a.m., everyone inside the residence exited without incident, deputies say.

Hill has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.

"I am so proud of the men and women who worked for hours overnight to bring this incident to a peaceful resolution," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Unfortunately, this is the second barricade subject situation we've been called to in the last 24 hours. While we don't yet know a motive for either of today's incidents, I want to urge anyone who may be suffering from any type of mental health issues to reach out for help. The holidays can be a difficult time, but you are not alone."
