HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — After a public hearing Wednesday night, the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners voted to increase school impact fees.
The money can only be used by the school district to buy more properties and acquire facilities needed to meet the population demand.
School leaders said they want to continue allowing growth in the county but need developers to share in the financial burdens of overcrowding impacts.

Fees will be collected in unincorporated Hillsborough County, Tampa, Plant CIty and Temple Terrace.
This will only apply to new homes.
The new fees are roughly double the current fees.
It’s a one time, up front charge that developers pay for, but that fee is included in the price of the new home that buyers eventually pay for.
