HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- A death investigation is underway in Hillsborough County after human remains were found Friday afternoon.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said someone called 911 after discovering human remains behind a home on the 10000 block of East Bay Road in Gibsonton.
Deputies responded around 2:00 p.m.
"We're working to find out exactly how the person ended up here and exactly what led to their death," said Crystal Clark, a spokesperson with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Officials have not identified the body. Investigators are asking the public to call the sheriff's office with any information.
"We're working to figure out if this was a rental property, but we do believe several people frequented this home. Right now, I can tell you there were several calls for service at this address just in the last month and most of them were for warrant calls," said Clark.
Deputies did not specify if the death was suspicious. So far, no arrests have been made as of Friday evening.
