HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — An employee with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has been arrested for using gift cards meant for children and families in need, according to the sheriff's office.
Kristine Brois faces multiple charges after she admitted to using or selling $5,500 worth of the gift cards. The sheriff's office says she was an administrative specialist with them for over 21 years.

"I am disappointed to find out that one of our own employees would take advantage of the very children she was charged with helping," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I ashamed of this behavior which does not reflect our culture here at the Sheriff's Office."
The sheriff's office says Brois was entrusted with maintaining activated gift cards as part of her job with the Child Protective Investigations Division.
She was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Friday for third degree grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card over $100. She is suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
