TAMPA, Fla. — Two people, including a deputy, were taken to the hospital after a crash on I-275 in Tampa early Sunday morning.

A deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was sitting inside a marked Ford Explorer on I-275 south near East Floribraska Avenue a little before 2:15 a.m. as another deputy was conducting a DUI traffic stop. During the traffic stop, a silver Nissan Altima rear-ended the deputy's Ford Explorer at a high rate of speed, according to deputies.

The crash caused the deputy's SUV to spin 180 degrees and stopped in one of the interstate's shoulders and the Nissan rolled across two lanes before hitting a concrete barrier. No other cars were involved in the crash, Sheriff's Office said.

Both the deputy and the driver of the Nissan Altima were taken to Tampa General Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan Altima was cited for careless driving and violation of the move over law.

The Sheriff's Office said impairment was not a factor in the crash.
