HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol released the identities of the two people killed in last week's fiery eight-vehicle crash on I-75 Wednesday afternoon.
Dwayne McCormick, 54 of Evington, Virginia, and Robert Mavis, 40 of Land O' Lakes, died on the scene of the crash on Nov. 13, according to FHP.
A report from FHP stated the deadly crash near mile marker 272, north of New Tampa Boulevard, involved a total of eight vehicles, including two semis, around 6 p.m.

The report went on to say that as traffic slowed McCormick, who was driving a 2015 semi, failed to slow down and moved into the center lane in an effort to avoid a collision. McCormick then hit the back of a Chevy Equinox, which then hit a Buick Verano, which then hit a BMW.
As the semi McCormick was driving continued forward it then hit the back of Mavis' 2016 Mercedes and the back of another semi.
The report says Mavis' Mercedes became trapped between the two semis as a result and then McCormick's semi came to a final rest on top of it.
McCormick's semi and Mavis' Mercedes both became fully engulfed in fire, killing them on scene.
The crash shut down northbound lanes of I-75 in New Tampa for several hours Wednesday night and into Thursday morning before they reopened just before 8 a.m.
