The northbound lanes of U.S. 301 at Columbus Drive in Hillsborough County are currently closed while the Florida Highway Patrol investigates a deadly motorcycle accident.
At approximately 5:54 a.m. a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Cierra Denise Mobley, 31, of California, was traveling southbound on US 301, north of Columbus Drive, in the left turn lane. A 2012 Honda CBR250, operated by a 28-year-old man, was traveling northbound on US 301, south of Columbus Drive. At the intersection, the Chevy turned left into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision between the Chevy and the motorcycle. The 28-year-old man died at the scene of the crash. Mobley was transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
Southbound lanes of 301 are open.
Motorists are advised to use Falkenburg Road, I-75 or Orient Road as detours.
