TAMPA, Fla. — A driver is recovering at the hospital after car vehicle plunged into the water off the Courtney Campbell Causeway Thursday night.
The Tampa Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash off the Courtney Campbell Causeway a little after 8 p.m.
Police said when officers arrived on scene, a male driver was pulled from the water and was unconscious. A CPR was performed on the driver and the driver eventually regained consciousness and was breathing again.
Josh Platt said he was driving by when he saw the vehicle go into the water. As soon as Platt realized what was going on, he jumped into the water to help pull the driver out.
"We pulled the person out and brought him to the land," Platt said. "Firefighter went on from there."
The driver was then transported to the hospital and is expected to be okay.
As of Thursday night, officials did not say if alcohol played a factor in the incident. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
