HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Cleveland Elementary students will create a street mural in front of their school to bring a sense of community and safety to campus.

Hillsborough County Schools, partnering with Plan Hillsborough and Vision Zero, hosted a contest at Cleveland Elementary where students were able to submit designs for an extensive street mural.

A floral design submitted by Alex Tavarez, 12, a fifth-grade student, was selected.

Saturday morning, a professional artist will come out and sketch out the parameters of the street mural and the students will paint it with bright, bold colors.

The idea behind many street murals in the area are to help slow traffic, specifically near school zones.

The street mural painting event will be help December 15, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on the street in front of Cleveland Elementary School, located at 723 E Hamilton Ave in Tampa.
