TAMPA, Fla. — A felony charge against singer Chris Brown has been dropped two years after he was accused of "sucker punching" a photographer in Tampa.

According to Hillsborough County Court officials, the State Attorney's office decided to drop the felony battery charge stemming from an incident in April 2017.

Brown was facing the charge after hitting 38-year-old Bennie L. Vines, a photographer hired by AJA Channelside to take photos of an after-party event Brown was paid to be at.

The incident was captured on camera by a man who went to the club with some friends to get a glimpse of the singer.

Brown was later taken into custody a year after the incident in Palm Beach County.

His original arrest warrant was issued in August 2017, but since the charge was only a misdemeanor, police waited until Brown was back in the state to charge him.

Brown is scheduled to perform August 31 at Amalie Arena.
