In a special ceremony dedicated to Women's History Month, nearly five dozen women took the Oath of Allegiance to become American citizens.
The women represented 27 different countries in a ceremony at the WMU-Cooley Law School in Riverview.
Those women were from:
- Albania
- Barbados
- Bosnia-Herzegovina
- China, People's Republic of
- Colombia
- Cuba
- Dominican Republic
- Germany
- Guatemala
- Haiti
- Honduras
- Iceland
- India
- Jamaica
- Jordan
- Korea
- Liberia
- Mexico
- Panama
- Peru
- Philippines
- Romania
- Russia
- United Kingdom
- Venezuela
- Vietnam
- Yugoslavia
- Zambia
Rimma Magdessian of Russia moved to the United States when she was 19.
It has taken her 22 years to become a citizen, "I can't describe in words, I'm just so happy," she said.
Magdessian has a six-year-old son with her husband whom she met in the U.S.
